CONNECTICUT — Winter sports at Connecticut high schools will remain on track to open practices on Jan. 19, pending further guidance from the state Department of Public Health, following a meeting of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Board of Control Thursday.

The board met to discuss recent communications with public health officials, appraise the current level of in-person learning around the state, and review the coronavirus mitigating strategies contained in the CIAC Winter Sports Plan. Another Board of Control meeting is scheduled for next week, at which time the board anticipates reviewing updated guidance from the public health department and the office of Gov. Ned Lamont.

On Nov. 17, the CIAC announced a delay in the start of the winter scholastic season to Jan. 19. Lamont issued a similar edict governing all non-collegiate amateur teams two days later.
