To date, the Avon Greater Together Community Fund has distributed $20,000 to six nonprofits, including: Avon Congregational Church Social and Environmental Justice Ministry; Avon Land Trust; Bottoms Up; CT-ALIVE; Garden Club of Avon; and UR Community Cares.
“This is the first time we have hosted a reception and been this public about the Community Fund’s impact on Avon. We hope to do this twice per year with a different theme. This year’s theme is highlighting the Avon Public School community,” said Avon Community Fund Advisory Committee Chair Haleigh Guerrera.
“Our goal is to tell people who we are, recognize the first six organizations we funded, and ask the community to help us address Avon’s needs in an effective, meaningful way.”
Tax-deductible donations to the Avon Greater Together Community Fund to support the committee’s efforts going forward are welcomed.
In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 endowed Community Funds for each of the 29 towns in the foundation’s region, which includes Avon.
In January 2022, the Avon Community Fund received another $50,000 totaling an investment of $150,000.
