Avon Congregational Church Hosting Orlando Vigil

AVON, CT - The Avon Congregational is hosting a vigil to honor the Orlando shooting victims on Thursday.

The vigil is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 6 West Main St.

The shooting Sunday at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando left 50 people dead and 53 people hospitalized, making it the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

"In kinship with all who grieve the tragedy in Orlando, Avon Congregational Church will open its doors and its heart onto anyone seeking a sacred space for personal prayer, meditation, or to sit with someone who honors your grief," church officials said.

Church officials said the vigil, "will not be a formal service" and "persons are encouraged to drop in at a time convenient to them and depart when the spirit moves them."
