The position is part of a new initiative.

AVON, CT - The Avon Volunteer Fire Department has announced the appointment of Katherine Matousek as its first-ever health and fitness coordinator.
Filling the volunteer position is a first step in implementing the department’s new wellness and fitness initiative, fire officials said.
“As we work to fully adopt our wellness and fitness initiative, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Katherine Matousek step up to serve as health and fitness Coordinator, a position integral to the success of our new program,” AVFD Chief Michael Trick said. “Katherine has been a valued member of the department for five years, most notably coordinating our monthly member newsletter and spearheading our annual golf tournament. She is certified in CPR/AED, and she is certified to teach spinning, group core, interval, ViPR, and barre pilates classes. This fall, Matousek will complete a personal training course, fire officials said.
As the AVFD health and fitness coordinator, Matousek reports to the AVFD medical officer, Captain Adam Corrado, MD.
