Avon Historical Society Derrin Presentation Going On As Planned

It is slated for June 4.

AVON, CT - One Avon Historical Society event regarding the Derrin family is going on, despite the family farmhouse being damaged by fire last week.

The Special Projects Committee of the Avon Historical Society is presenting, as scheduled on June 4, the last installment of a year-long lecture series focusing on the former Derrin family of Avon when it was a farming community.

Historian Diana Ross McCain will recount experiences of the family who called the Avon Historical Society’s Derrin Farmhouse home, and of neighbors interred with them in the West Avon Cemetery, in her lecture "Here Lie the Derrins."

The event is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Avon Free Public Library, 280 Country Club Road. It is being funded by Connecticut Humanities, open to the public free of charge with refreshments served immediately after the presentation.

The June 12 event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the deed signing on the Derrin Farmhouse, has been postponed due to the fire, historical society officials said.
