Avon Library To Host March 25 Presentation On Bobcats In Connecticut

Thursday, March 25 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The bobcat is the only wild cat found in Connecticut and the most common wild cat in North America. The presentation will focus on the natural history of bobcats in Connecticut. Once considered a threat to agriculture and game species as well as a high value on its pelts the state had concerns that the bobcat population could be over harvested. So, in 1972 the bobcat was reclassified as a protected fur bearer in Connecticut with no hunting or trapping seasons. Join us for a great presentation by CT DEEP Master Wildlife Conservationist Gail Cameron.

About our presenter:

A lifelong Hamden resident, Gail Cameron grew up with Sleeping Giant in her backyard. Perhaps that is where her love for nature began. She graduated from the College of Agriculture at UCONN and went on to work for more than 44 years at the Yale Medical School. Now retired, she enjoys having the time to hike, bird and care for her many pets. She is a Master Wildlife Conservationist with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Vice President and Environmental Stewardship Chair of the Sleeping Giant Park Association and volunteers on multiple projects with Connecticut Audubon. She loves crafting, spinning yarn and spending time with her family. Gail is honored to lead the Hamden Land Trust as it begins its 50th anniversary.
