Avon Lions Club Presents Historical Society With 2016 Community Service Award

AVON, CT - The Lions Club of Avon has presented its 2016 Community Service Award to The Avon Historical Society.

The Award presentation emphasized the founding of the Avon Historical Society in 1979, its use and restoration of several historical properties in the Town for education and reference concerning the history of Avon, their designation of certain houses and areas of historical interest within the Town, and the organization's work with the Avon Free Public Library in staffing and preparing displays at the Marian Hunter History Room and sponsoring historical education programs that have been very popular.

Lions President Dave Yadach and Past President Pat Kiser presented the award to Avon Historical Society President Terri Wilson.

Yadach also presented the Historical Society with a donation check to assist with renovations to the the Historic Derrin House, which was damaged in a May 11 fire.

Following the Award presentation, the Lions installed their new officers for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Heidi Zacchera was installed as President for the new year.
