Avon Old Farms Class of '88 Flagpole Dedication
Class of '88 Flagpole Dedication as Varsity Football Takes on Salisbury School Under the Lights.

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, Avon Old Farms School will recognize the Class of 1988 with a commemorative dedication and lighting ceremony in honor of the new flagpole that stands at Ryan Field. In 2013, several graduates from the Class of ’88 realized that the beautiful playing fields of Avon Old Farms were incomplete without an American flag. Thanks to the generosity - and love of school and country - of these Avonians, the Winged Beavers now compete alongside a 50-foot flagpole, which will be lighted during this special ceremony.
To celebrate their generosity, members of the Class of ‘88 and their guests will be treated to a special pre-game reception in Avon’s Commons Room, featuring remarks from both Headmaster Ken LaRocque as well as Head Coach Emeritus Kevin Driscoll ’72, who taught, coached, and mentored this group of alumni during their years as Winged Beavers. Before the 7 p.m. kickoff on Ryan Field, the members of the Class of ‘88 will join Headmaster LaRocque and Coach Driscoll at centerfield for the lighting of the flagpole and a performance of the national anthem from the Riddlers, Avon’s elite chorale group.
The ceremony will conclude with one of Avon’s most treasured fall athletic traditions: the Under the Lights varsity football game, as the Winged Beavers take on Salisbury School. The perennial rivals will face off under the lights and the graceful new flag, as the Avon Army, members of the Class of ’88, and friends, family, and alumni cheer on the Winged Beavers to victory.
