Avon, Connecticut--- The tight-knit community at Avon Old Farms School is widely known for its tradition of brotherhood. Students support one another through good times and bad, forging bonds as they live, learn, and grow together - lifelong bonds that do not cease at graduation. When current students learned that one of last year’s graduating seniors, Gavin Touponse ’14, was battling an illness impacting his blood and bone marrow, they sprang into action to show him he isn’t alone in the fight.
On Tuesday, December 2, Avon will show its support to Gavin by hosting a blood drive on campus, and many students, faculty, staff, parents, friends, and alumni are donating blood to the American Red Cross in his honor. A representative from the Be the Match foundation will be in attendance, as well, to enter students into the national bone marrow transplant database. All time slots to donate blood in the five-hour drive have been filled - a testament to the strength of the community and the lasting bonds between Men of Avon.
