Avon Police Send Out Scam Warning

Scammers have been calling Avon residents.

AVON, CT — Avon police are warning residents about phone scams involving people posing as some type of customer service representative.

Several residents have complained about the calls, police said.

The callers are friendly and pretend to be having problems with a headset, police said. If a person says "yes" when asked if the "representative" can he heard, the voice response could be used to activate accounts suck as utilities, police said.

Local area codes could be used in the scams, police said.

  • Do not give out personal information
  • Do not answer calls from unfamiliar numbers
  • Do not confirm an identity over the phone
  • Do not answer questions over the phone
