Avon Residents Generously Support AHS Athletics
Annual Avon Booster Club Ticket Drive is a Success
On Sunday, September 28th, 112 Avon High School athletes and 36 volunteer parent-drivers canvassed area neighborhoods to solicit donations to the annual Avon Booster Club Ticket Drive – and resident response was overwhelming. “It was a beautiful day and, at first, many residents weren’t home,” says Booster Club President Maria Mascoli. “But the residents who were home were very generous. Avon takes pride in its winning athletic programs, and that was abundantly clear today.” Nearly $9,000.00 was raised, in addition to another $9,000.00 from a separate direct-mail patron drive held this summer. “We thank town residents for their continuing generosity and assure them that their money will be well-invested in Avon’s student-athletes this, and every, year.”
The Avon Booster Club’s mission is to support and enhance all AHS athletic teams and they do so by funding programs, resources, equipment and gear purchases, and scholarships for student-athletes. The club, for example, is renting the lights under which the school’s Spirit Week games will be played October 6th through 10th, and their imprint can be seen on virtually all of Avon High’s playing fields and courts in the form of nets, scoreboards, mats, timers, seating, storage units and a concession shed. Says new Athletic Director, Greg Ferry, “it’s tough to go to an Avon High sporting event and not see the mark of our Booster Club. They support all of our teams and are an integral part of our program.”
Residents interested in donating to the Avon Booster Club can do so by mailing a check to Avon Booster Club, P.O. Box 9, Avon CT 06001. Residents are also encouraged to come see the Falcons in action this fall. A complete listing of Avon’s home games and meets can be found at www.ciacsports.com.
