Avon's Tax Timeline Impacted By Budget Battle
Local officials said the time when taxes must be paid will depend on Friday's townwide budget vote results.

AVON, CT — Avon's budget for 2024-25 is yet to be finalized, with town officials this week releasing information on how that situation could impact tax bills this summer.
"Until a budget is adopted and a mill rate is set, property tax bills cannot be prepared, printed, and sent out to property owners," wrote the town this week in an announcement
A second budget referendum has been set for Friday, June 7, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Road, Avon.

If the proposed budget is approved at the second referendum, tax bills will be mailed before July 1, due and payable July 1 with the last day to pay without penalty being Aug. 1.
If the proposed budget is not approved on June 7 and a third budget referendum is required, tax bills will be mailed after July 1.

These bills would be due and payable Aug. 1, with the last day to pay without penalty being Sept. 3.
"Please note that tax bills will be made available on the town’s website approximately one week after a budget is adopted and the mill rate is set," wrote the town.
Taxpayers can visit the town’s website to review their bills and make payments at that time.
There is no need to wait to receive a hard copy of a bill in the mail.
