Basic Judaism in 20 Inspiring Sessions

The Institute for Basic Judaism program is offering classes for the adult learner to discover or deepen Jewish knowledge.

The Institute for Basic Judaism program is a pathway for the adult learner who wishes to discover or deepen Jewish knowledge. In 20 sessions it will provide a journey into Jewish spirituality, thought, ritual and culture. Classes will deal with the scope of Jewish history, the meaning of Jewish peoplehood, Jewish diversity and the importance of Israel to the Jewish people. The program will meet at the Solomon Schechter Day School on Monday evenings beginning October 27. As of December 1, an optional beginners Hebrew reading module will be added to the program. Rabbis in the Greater Hartford area, including Rabbis David Small, Gary Atkins, Richard Plavin, James Rosen and Debra Cantor, will teach classes.

This program will be of value to Jews who never had the opportunity of a Jewish education in their youth, prospective Jews-by-Choice who need to meet the academic requirements of conversion to Judaism, individuals who want to better understand the religion of their significant other or a family member and non-Jews who may have an intellectual curiosity about the mother faith of both Christianity and Islam. For further information, call Rabbi Richard Plavin (860-643-9563) or go on the internet to http://www.ibjewish.org/.
