Cellist Eric Dahlin and Violinist Jaroslaw Lis to Perform on February 22

Hartford Symphony Musicians to be Featured in Avon Library's Sunday Afternoon Program

The Friends of the Avon Library will present cellist Eric Dahlin and violinist Jaroslaw Lis on Sunday, February 22, in the next program in the Avon Library’s popular Sundays at Three series. Good friends and longtime chamber music colleagues, the two gifted musicians have planned a special musical treat, a fascinating exploration of a single work, “Duo for Violin and Cello” by Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály. The piece, one of the most popular in the duo violin, cello repertoire, is a compelling work described as a “perfect storm of evocative Hungarian folk music combined with formal classical elements.” The program promises to be entertaining, full of subtle musical insights, and a display of virtuosic performance.

Eric Dahlin, assistant principal cellist of the Hartford Symphony, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, received his B.M. from the Hartt School, University of Hartford, and a M.M. from the Yale University School of Music. Eric has served as principal cellist of the Cape Cod Symphony and Summer Music at Harkness. He performs with Orchestra New England and the New Haven Symphony. He is on the faculty of the Hartt School Community Division and is frequently invited to host master classes and adjudicate competitions. He is founder and director of Music Adventure, a summer chamber music program for high school string players and adult cellists which, during its 14-year history, has convened in Croatia, Austria and Italy.

Jaroslaw Lis is assistant principal second violinist and personnel manager of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and is also on the faculty of the Hart School Community Division. He has studied with Krysztof Jakowicz, Syoko Aki, the Tokyo String Quartet, and was a scholarship student of Nathan Milstein (Zurich, Switzerland). He has been a member of the Assai and Essex Quartets, receiving Second Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition with the Assai Quartet. He has been on the faculty of the Madeline Island Music Camp, the Palisade Arts Festival, the Friends of Music Camp in South Korea, and Music Adventure in Italy.
