Council Wants Funds Restored for Horse Guard in Avon
At a special meeting Wednesday, the council adopted a resolution to ask the state to restore the funds.

At a special meeting Wednesday, the Avon Town Council adopted a resolution to ask the state to restore the funds for the First Company Horse Guard, the Hartford Courant reports.
The resolution asks that the $70,000 be restored and that the two horse guard units - Avon and Newtown - remain as they are.
The vote was unanimous and several residents - and a few people from out of town - attended the meeting to support the effort.

The unit was established in 1778, which is said to be the oldest cavalry unit in the country, and has been in Avon since 1954.
