Data Breach Affects 51 UPS Locations

Two stores in Connecticut were listed among the possibly compromised locations

The UPS Store has issued a warning about a possible data breach affecting 51 locations across 24 states, including two stores in Connecticut.

The store is among many retailers that received a government bulletin regarding a malware intrusion – not identified by current anti-virus software – that may have compromised customers’ names, addresses, email addresses and payment card information.

The Avon store located at 35 East Main Street is one of the affected stores. The intrusion happened on March 28 and data was secure as of Aug. 8.

The second location affected in Connecticut is 1131 Tolland Turnpike, Suite O, in Manchester. The intrusion happened on July 1 and data was secure as of Aug. 11.

Upon receiving the bulletin, UPS hired an IT security firm to review its systems as well as the systems at its franchises, identifying the locations affected by the breach.

“I understand this type of incident can be disruptive and cause frustration. I apologize for any anxiety this may have caused our customers,” Tim Davis, president of The UPS Store, said in a statement. “As soon as we became aware of the potential malware intrusion, we deployed extensive resources to quickly address and eliminate this issue. Our customers can be assured that we have identified and fully contained the incident.”

UPS is offering identity protection and credit monitoring services to affected customers.

Based on the current assessment, The UPS Store has no evidence of fraud.
