In Concert - Jenny Choi, Winner of the 2013 Connecticut Young Artist Piano Competition
Young piano virtuoso Jiyeon “Jenny” Choi will be performing in a free concert at the Avon Public Library’s community room at 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 20. Ms. Choi was the recent first-place winner of the 2013 Connecticut Young Artist Piano Competition. A native of South Korea, she the winner of Hanyang University’s Concerto Competition held in Seoul.
Ms. Choi has performed in recitals in the United States, Korea, China, Austria, and Germany as well as at festivals including the International Keyboard Institute & Festival at Mannes Conservatory in New York, Beijing International Music Festival in China, and the Vienna Summer Music Festival in Austria. In addition, she has participated in master classes with Piotr Paleczny, Sontraud Speidel, Philip Kawin, Pavlina Dokovska, Awadagin Pratt, and Yoshikazu Nagai.
She began her musical studies in her native Korea where she graduated from the Seoul Arts High School and the Sun Hwa Arts School, the two most prominent schools of arts in that country. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Hanyang University. Studying under a four-year, full scholarship Ms. Choi was recognized as the top student in that university’s piano department. In May she will complete her Master of Music in Piano Performance at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford where she currently studies with Hae Sun Paik and Luiz de Moura Castro.

Jiyeon “Jenny” Choi performs a free piano concert Sunday April 20 at 3 p.m. at the Avon Free Public Library’s “Sundays at Three” series in the library community room, 281 Country Club Road. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
