AVON/FARMINGTON, CT — Saying "the response was nothing short of extraordinary," the Avon Volunteer Fire Department said the recent pasta dinner to help an ill AVFD deputy chief was a massive success.

According to the AVFD, an "incredible wave of support" filled the Farmington Polo Club Feb. 23 as first responders, town officials, neighbors, friends, and families came together.

“We’re overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for Deputy Chief Dave Theriault,” said AVFD Chief Bruce Appell. “And yet, it truly comes as no surprise that our community showed up in such a big way to demonstrate just how much Dave means to us.”

For more than 30 years, Theriault has served the Town of Avon — serving as a firefighter, public works employee, and active community member.

The AVFD especially thanked the Hometown Foundation, Inc., Buzzuto's Inc., and the Farmington Polo Club for providing all the food and the event venue as well as online ticket sales.

Avon fire officials also credited the partnership of Tunxis Hose Company No. 1, the Farmington Fire Department, and the dozens of local businesses and organizations that donated raffle and auction items.

Donations are still being sought and anyone still wanting to help can do so via the Hometown Foundation, Venmo, or by mail to the AVFD at 25 Darling Drive, Avon, CT 06001.
