HomeGoods Moving From Simsbury to Avon
Avon zoning board has approved a shopping plaza expansion for retailer to leave site in Simsbury for the Shops at Nod Brook plaza.

AVON/SIIMSBURY, CT — One of the town's larger shopping plazas will soon have a new store, courtesy of recent Avon Planning and Zoning Commission approval to expand the Shops at Nod Hill complex.
But as part of that project, a national retailer located in nearby Simsbury will be moving to Avon.
Last month, the PZC unanimously voted to approve an application to expand the site at 315 W. Main St. to allow for construction of a HomeGoods store.

As part of that proposal, the HomeGoods store located at 500 Bushy Hill Road in Simsbury would move to the Avon site, according to Avon PZC meeting minutes.
HomeGoods is part of the Framingham, Mass.,-based national retail conglomerate called TJX Companies Inc., which also includes other "off-price' retailers like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls within its branding umbrella.

HomeGoods features various home products for the kitchen, bathroom, yards as well as furniture and lighting, among other items.
The June 14 PZC vote was attended by Paramount Realty owner Lee Zekeria, who owns the real estate development firm with his brother, and other developer representatives.
Paramount earlier this year purchased the Shops at Nod Hill complex for $22.3 million and the company is looking to expand the site for a HomeGoods store, among other improvements.
The approved plan would be a 23,500-square-foot addition to the complex that would require demolition of a 7,520-square-foot vacant restaurant at the site.
As part of the plans, the parking requirements would be lowered to 500 total spaces for the shopping plaza to help accommodate the expanded building footprint for the HomeGoods.
Because the plaza expansion is in an appropriately zoned area, no public hearing was required and all the developer needed was site plan approval.
The PZC granted that approval with seven, mostly technical, conditions of development, such as the parking capacity reduction to 500 and keeping town staff apprised of any development activities along the way.
