Initial Report on Derrin House Fire In Avon - Accidental

More information is expected.

AVON, CT -The preliminary report on a fire that ravaged the historic Derrin House on Route 167 Wednesday is that it was accidental, the president of the historical society said Wednesday night.

Avon Historical Society Prersident Terri Wilson said she will be in contact with investigators again about the at the 249 West Avon Road house. That is the local address for Route 167.

Calls about the fire came in just before 8:50 a.m, she said.

At 9:57, fire officials posted on their Facebook page that the blaze was out.

The road was closed for some time.

The Derrin House was built in 1810. The state owns it, but the Historical society leases it. Members of the Derrin family owned the land on which the house sits from 1766 to 1920, according to society archives.
