Jazz Pianist John Brighenti Performs Sunday, January 25
Avon Library to Spotlight the Sound of Jazz With Pianist John Brighenti and Friends
If you love the sophisticated sounds of the Great American Songbook, you’re in for a special treat Sunday, January 25, when the Friends of the Avon Library present veteran jazz pianist John Brighenti, sensational young vocalist Erin O’Luanaigh and bassist Mike Asetta in a free concert, part of the Avon Library’s popular Sundays at Three series. The threesome will be working their musical magic on selections by Rodgers and Hart, “Fats” Waller, Jerome Kern and many other songwriting immortals. A resident of Farmington, Brighenti has played to enthusiastic audiences in area venues ranging from Foxwoods Resort Casino to the New Britain Museum of American Art. He has performed everywhere from cruise ships to concert halls and toured nationwide with the revived Glenn Miller Orchestra. Though a relative newcomer to jazz, O’Luanaigh, a native of Cheshire, has been rapidly captivating audiences with a vocal style that evokes such greats as Anita O’Day and Sarah Vaughn, and a voice with a depth and maturity that belie her 23 years. Bassist Mike Asetta, a classically trained musician, is a masterful improviser whose international touring began early in his career, ranging around the globe from Carnegie Hall to Korea’s Seoul Arts Center. Now residing in Connecticut, he leads jazz groups at concerts, private events, and clubs throughout Southern New England and the New York area. You will have and opportunity to meet this talented, personable trio following their performance. Light refreshments will be served. JOHN BRIGHENTI & FRIENDS in a free concert Sunday, January 25 at 3 p.m. in the Community Room of Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, Avon. 860-675-6343.
