Jolly Beggars to Perform on January 11

Irish Quintet Featured at the Avon Public LIbrary

The Avon Free Public Library’s popular winter concert series, “Sundays at Three,” gets off to a rollicking start with a back-by-popular-demand performance on January 11 by the Jolly Beggars, five young men with contagious enthusiasm and impressive musicianship. The audience is in for a treat from this always entertaining quintet of high-spirited musicians who clearly enjoy what they are doing and share their delight in a playful manner that never fails to bring down the house.
Heavily influenced by music from Ireland’s pub scene, they tell stories from Irish folklore and intersperse their musical arrangements with traditional reels and jigs. Characterized by theirtight harmonies and use of mandolin, pennywhistle, guitar, bass, bodhran, spoons and more, The Jolly Beggars have quickly built a solid following throughout New England and the Tri-State area. Members of the group are Jeff DesRosier, Christopher Vece, Greg Wilfrid, David Uhl and Matt Torcellini, all classically trained musicians-the Hartt School, University of Hartford-with day jobs as music educators throughout central Connecticut, but when the school day is over, the funreally begins! Light refreshments will be served after the performance, and there will be an opportunity to meet and chat with the members of the group.
THE JOLLY BEGGARS present a free concert Sunday, January 11 at 3 p.m. in the Community Room of Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, Avon. 860-675-6343. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the avon Public LIbrary.
