A HISTORY OF IMPRESSIONISM FEATURED IN DUNCASTER'S UPCOMING "GREAT COURSES" SERIES

BLOOMFIELD, CT, Sept. 15, 2014—Impressionism will be the subject of the next series’ of “Great Courses” at Duncaster Retirement Community. The courses will occur on Fridays from October 3 through December 26 at 1:30 pm (no class Nov. 28). They are open to the public with preregistration. Those interested may participate in the full series or in individual sessions. This series of lectures will introduce participants to the style, subject, and function of Impressionist painting by artists including Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, and van Gogh.

The sessions will look at the impact of the public and private worlds of Parisian modernity, life in the countryside, the new leisure class on these artists as well as the influential legacy of Impressionism. The course will be taught by Dr. Brettell, Professor of Aesthetic Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas.
