Peace Vigil Planned for Avon

Avon Congregational Church will hold a 'League of Light' Vigil on Tuesday, August 22nd.

AVON, CT - From Avon Congregational Church: Stand together in the light: That’s the call to action for friends and neighbors troubled by the events surrounding Charlottesville and Barcelona. The League of Light is organizing a vigil for Tuesday, August 22, where Farmington Valley faith leaders and others will offer words of comfort and inspiration. The candle-lit ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. at the Avon Congregational Church, on the corner of Hopmeadow Street (Route 10) and Route 44.

The League of Light is a new multi-faith group, providing a focal point for people to share, understand and act to promote peace and stand against violence and division.

· Dr. Khamis Abu - Hasaballah, League of Light Founding Member, President of Farmington Valley American Muslim Center, Avon
· Reverend Chris Dion, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Simsbury
· Rabbi Debra Cantor, Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom, Bloomfield
· Reverend Linda Spiers, Trinity Episcopal Church, Collinsville
· Reverend Bart Cochran, Southwick Congregational Church, Southwick MA

Betsy Van Loon, League of Light Founding Member, will guide participants through the Vigil. Mike Smoolca, League of Light Founding Member will give an update on the League of Light and its future activities.

Please note: Parking is available on the west side of the Church but not in the lower lot near to First and Last. There is additional parking on the east side of the street near the post office. Please use extreme caution in crossing Route 10.
