Pianist Luiz de Moura Castro to Appear in Concert at the Avon Library
World-renowned concert pianist and master teacher Luiz de Moura Castro will be performing in a solo recital at the Avon Library February 8

The Sundays at Three series, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, continues with pianist Luiz de Moura Castro. All are welcome, admission is free, and reservations are not required.
Recognized as a consummate interpreter of the music of Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt, Professor de Moura Castro will be presenting works by those composers as well as a selection by Heitor Villa-Lobos, one of the foremost Latin American composers of the 20th century. de Moura Castro has been a faculty member of the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford since 1978 and was chairman of the piano department for 15 years. In addition, he is currently an associate professor at the Juan Pedro Carrera Music School in Barcelona and a teacher at the Pro Arte Seminaros de Musica in Rio de Janeiro. A native of Rio de Janeiro, and long-time resident of Avon, he has appeared as soloist with symphony orchestras throughout Europe and the United States, including the Hartford Symphony, as well as with all of the major orchestras in Brazil. He is the President of the Frédéric Chopin Society of Connecticut and has been on the board of the American Liszt Society for over a decade. He was recently named the “2014 Immigrant of the Year” in Connecticut. You will have an opportunity to meet this remarkable artist following his performance. Light refreshments will be served.
