"Secrets & Shadows" Reception at Gallery 53, Nov. 2nd

Celebrating the release of Asylum, a dark suspense saga, and the exhibit opening of Urbex Photography featuring abandoned asylums.

Author Kathryn Orzech of Meriden and photographer Robert C. Marsala of Waterbury combine talents at Gallery 53. Dark secrets of a prestigious family in Asylum pair with Marsala’s shadows of decaying asylums in this unique book launch and exhibition opening.

Connecticut history adds authenticity to Asylum’s characters and plot.

Set in central Connecticut in 1899, Asylum’s secrets remain hidden for seventy five years until a granddaughter inherits ancestral assets and her family’s mysterious past comes knocking. A strange old woman. Cryptic messages. And a rare antique key that might unlock the truth, if only she could find it. As she pursues clues from Hartford and Providence to Italy and Morocco, she doesn’t see a lethal danger looming in an office down the hall.

Multi-Spectrum Urbex Photography records history.

For more than 25 years Marsala has explored the decaying structures of our past—recording them as nature attempts to reclaim them. He said, “As an artist, I see the multi-layered story—about the structure, its people, all that it was, and all that it has become. My photography captures both visible light and the infrared spectrum offering a unique view of these once-grand structures truly In A Different Light.” Photos displayed through Nov. 18th.
