AVON –State Rep. Tim LeGeyt (R-17) recently visited CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts in Avon. Joined by Reggio Magnet School Principal Josephine Di Pietro Smith, and CREC Coordinator Julia Winer, Rep. LeGeyt had the opportunity to engage with teachers and students as they toured the new school grounds.
“I was pleased to have the opportunity to visit the new CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts,” said LeGeyt. “I especially appreciated having the chance to interact with the teachers and students in the classroom. It is encouraging to witness the students engaged in such an enriched and interactive learning environment.”
The Reggio Emilia Education Philosophy, which puts the natural environment at the center of its approach, is reflected throughout the building. Students learn together in an environment that not only brings the inspiration of nature indoors, but also connects the students to the outdoors.
“Our school community welcomed the opportunity to have Representative LeGeyt return to the CREC Reggio Magnet School,” said Principal Di Pietro Smith. “At Reggio, our goal is to provide the highest quality of education to all students. By combining a hands-on learning approach with the common core, we are able to continue to design differentiated instruction and to challenge students to achieve at the highest levels possible. We were grateful to have this opportunity to showcase our students’ learning and achievement for Representative LeGeyt.”

I wish continued success to Principal Di Pietro Smith and her staff as they continue to strive for excellence in the education process.”
The new site of CREC Reggio Magnet School opened in January 2014. The school has approximately 450 students enrolled in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
