What Avon High Swim Records Does Madison Kennedy Still Hold?
The former Avon resident competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials last weekend in the 50 and 100 free and was close to qualifying for London.
Former swimmer , 24, placed last weekend.
Only the top two from each event qualify for the U.S. Olympics team and the top six in the 100 free earn slots on the 4-by-100 relay. While she didn't qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London, she has had a strong year and still holds some Avon records.
“I’m obviously disappointed for her....She did extremely well and obviously did her best. Her times are her best, she just came up short.... She's been working up to this for eight years," Clayton Northgraves, her former Avon High School swim coach, said. "It's amazing she got to where she did. It’s something no one in Avon’s done before.”

Kennedy still holds records at the high school in the 50 (23.84), 100 (51.82) and 200 free (1:56.54), as well as the 100 back (58.45) and 100 fly (59.57), according to current Avon High School varsity swim coach Diana Cesaro. She said Kennedy also swam the fly leg on the record-setting 200-yard medley relay (1:58.03) with classmates Caitlin Pulling, Ally O'Connor and Lindsay Stone on Feb. 26, 2005.
"She was great. She was highly motivated. She motivated others and was a joy to have around," Northgraves said. “She’s probably the greatest swimmer in history of Avon swimming and will probably continue to be for quite some time.”
