📰 News we're reading

• Fire Breaks Out At Berlin Recycling Facility: BVFD (patch.com) — Berlin firefighters from all four town companies quickly contained a smoky fire under a conveyor in a recycling baling machine at Automated Material Handling on Christian Lane. Task Force 51 partners assisted with the difficult-to-access blaze, and crews ventilated the Berlin facility. No injuries were reported, and the Berlin Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.

• Meals tax money not going to tourism as intended (wfsb.com) — Connecticut's 1% meals tax is raising over $100 million a year, but instead of boosting tourism as promised, lawmakers are diverting it to the state's general fund. Berlin resident Suzie Dinnie and restaurant advocates want that money returned to towns to better promote local attractions. Legislators are expected to revisit the issue when they return in January.
