Berlin's Chief Of Police Gets Extension

The new deal will go from 2022-23 to 2025-26 and pay $147,000 plus a year.

BERLIN, CT β€” Town officials earlier this month have secured the current chief of police for another four years leading Berlin's finest.

The Berlin Town Council Dec. 13 unanously voted to authorize Berlin Town Manager Arosha Jayawickrema to enter into an employment agreement with Berlin Police Chief Matthew McNally IV.

His first day leading the BPD was Nov. 1, 2021 and the current agreement covers 2022-23 to 2025-26.

The four-year deal appears to indicate town satisfaction with his job performance, as he was hired in September 2021 after a 37-year career in the Danbury Police Department

"We're glad you're here. We're glad you're staying," said Berlin Mayor Mark H. Kaczynski. "Welcome chief for another four years."

According to the agreement, McNally's salary will be $147,290 with adjustments made annually by the town if deemed necessary.

McNally was hired to replace replace John Klett, who retired July 30, 2021.
