Berlin Library's 'Freedom Contest' Seeks Poetry Entries For America 250

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is inviting residents to submit short writings on the theme of freedom as part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration.

The “Freedom Contest,” running through April 30, asks participants to write either a single sentence or a short poem reflecting on freedom.

The initiative marks the 250th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Library officials said entries must be original and limited to one submission per entry, though multiple entries are allowed.

Participants must be at least 14 years old and hold a valid library card.

Submissions will be evaluated by a blind review panel of library staff.

All participants will receive a commemorative bookmark featuring their best submission, while the winning entry will be printed on the back of that month’s bookmark.

Entries must be submitted by April 30.

Library staff said submissions that do not follow contest guidelines or contain inappropriate content for public display will be disqualified.
