As reported in the news recently seventy-six Berlin coaches have expressed fears of reprisal from certain public official(s) in the Berlin Town government or elsewhere. Furthermore, we have received communications from citizens and small businesses in Berlin seeking assurances of confidentiality from us, requesting that we do not publicly disclose their names at this time since some fear reprisals from public officials and unknown parties that could have an adverse impact upon their local businesses, livelihoods, and children.
Since the Berlin Property Owners Association (BPOA) respects all citizens concerns for confidentiality and nondisclosure of their names, we wish to publicly announce that at this time and going forward, until decided otherwise, the BPOA intends to honor their requests to remain anonymous and not publicize any membership roll.
When the BPOA holds its first meeting, it will elect officers, write bylaws, and define goals. The organization will conduct itself in a nonpartisan and democratic manner. At that time, the BPOA is free to determine whether to publicize its membership roll or not, and if it wishes to maintain its membership as private, it can then elect a public spokesperson or spokespeople to represent the association on its behalf.
To those people who are reticent about attending the first meeting of the BPOA without knowing in advance the identity of its organizers, we say that you will have the opportunity to meet and know all involved citizens at the first publicly announced meeting. Good grief, please be assured that we are not muggers but your neighbors, good citizens, and taxpayers, who simply wish to do something about rising property taxes in Berlin, Connecticut.
