Connecticut Department of Transportation Reminds Residents to Obey The Orange

An average of four people are injured in a work zone every hour

Residents may notice that they are seeing more orange this year – and that is for good reason. The CT Department of Transportation has been out in full force repairing and performing maintenance on roadways after the harsh weather this past winter.

“The long winter we had caused road damage such as pot holes and general wear and tear,” said Rick DiNardi, Maintenance Planner. “Our maintenance teams are working around the clock to make the roadways safe for motorists, and with an increased presence out there, it is important to remember to slow down in these work zones and Obey the Orange each and every time.”

Work zones can present unfamiliar situations to road users. Changes in traffic patterns, closed or narrowed lanes, closed sidewalks, and the presence of construction equipment and personnel can cause hazards for road users as they travel through work zones.

“When you are driving and see orange – a cone, a sign, or anything related to a work zone – immediately slow down and stay alert,” added DiNardi.
