I fear that possibly there may be an information gap between the Town of Berlin and its citizens. Berlin only has a weekly newspaper. I grew up in New Britain, where my parents received three daily papers: the Hartford Courant, New Britain Herald, and Hartford Times, which my parents and I read faithfully.
The Berlin Patch attempted to fill this gap with quality editors, including Robert Mayer and Jason Vallee; however, apparently due to a change in ownership and staff cuts, the Berlin Patch appears to be without a local journalist to provide news of Berlin, Connecticut, including that of our Town government.
I believe that the Town of Berlin warrants a daily news medium provided by an objective, nonpartisan, and quality-oriented local writer, whether he or she is a professional journalist or not. The articles now written by Patch journalists and appearing on the Berlin Patch appear to be generic and have little to do specifically with the Town of Berlin.
Berlin deserves a quality source of news. Old news and no news is not good news for a democratic government and the citizens of Berlin.
