A stabbing incident took place at a high school in Murrysville, PA (near Pittsburgh) at approximately 7 a.m. EST, Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014, where 20 individuals were injured, and at least 7 of the victims have "life threatening" injuries, according to information told to WPIX-TV by Dr. Chris Kaufmann, who is the director of the trauma center at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. Four seriously injured individuals were taken by helicopter to area hospitals, from the Franklin Regional High school, KDKA-TV reports. Victims are between the ages of 14 and 17. The stabbings occurred in multiple classrooms before classes had begun.
A male suspect is in custody after the stabbing spree incident at the Franklin Regional High School in the Murrysville. The suspect has not been identified to the public yet.
The message posted to parents on the school website was, "A critical incident has occurred at the high school. All elementary schools are cancelled, the middle school and high school students are secure. Additional information will be released as soon as possible. Please keep our campus clear of traffic."
Parents were told to come and get their children, who were moved from the high school to the middle school.
Dan Stevens, a spokeswoman for Westmoreland County emergency management, said a press conference has been scheduled to take place later this morning.
