3 Bethel Businesses Sold Tobacco To Underage Customers: Police

BETHEL, CT — Employees at three Bethel businesses were cited following investigations by state and local police into the sale of tobacco products to underage buyers.

Bethel police worked with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to stage unannounced compliance checks at 11 local establishments. The crackdown occurred on June 14.

State law requires retailers to inspect the photo ID of anyone who looks under the age of 30 before selling them tobacco, vape or other related products.

The following businesses were found to be non-compliant and issued a first-time infraction and fined $300, according to a news release from the Bethel Police Department:

• Smoke Haven, 273 Greenwood Avenue
• Citgo, 295 Greenwood Avenue
• Citgo Food Bag, 77 Greenwood Avenue
