BETHEL, CT — The man accused of killing a young Bethel woman and then taking her car, phone and credit cards pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday, the News Times is reporting.

Police allege that Brandon Roberts, 26, of Ohio, lured Emily Todd, 25, to a boat ramp in Bridgeport on Dec. 8 after connecting with her through an online dating app. Roberts was charged with murder, felony murder, first-degree robbery and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Roberts has asked for a jury trial, and waived a hearing on probable cause.

Police found Todd, a therapist at a Danbury senior center and 2011 graduate of Bethel High School, with a gunshot wound to the head lying face down in the sand along the shore on Dec. 9. Roberts confessed to killing Todd and to shooting another woman in Washington Park in 2017, according to police.

Friends of Todd have established a GoFundMe campaign to help ease her family's financial burden.
