Arise Springtime, O Splendorous Season!

(submitted to us by 19th century area poet Nigel Tobbsworth)

Arise Springtime, O Splendorous Season!

Arise, springtime!
Awake, oh glorious days when thy first
Marlboro sprouts and Dunkin'blossoms
emerge from thine slumber in the plowdrifts.

Awake, o soccerfields
filled with pasty suburb children
drawn away from xbox basements
where eyes set glazed since late October.

And grey sidewalk substance,
Not quite ice, not quite water, not quite mud,
What, praytell, art thou?
Primordial ooze? Perhaps.

Come forth, ye freestyle bikerkids and skateboarders!
To frozen yogurt latenights
fueled by aluminum can energy drinks.
Make loud noises in the cul de sacs
of Bethel springtime oncemore!
