Bethel Police Investigate Shoplifters At Target Store

Police have apprehended one of two people reported shoplifting at the Stony Hill Road Target store this week.

BETHEL, CT — Police have apprehended one of two people reported shoplifting at the Stony Hill Road Target store.

The Bethel Police Department received a call at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday, reporting two people were leaving the store without paying.

Based on one of the suspect descriptions provided by Target, officers located the female suspect, identified as Carrie Walencik, 43, of New Milford. Police say they detained Walencik at the bottom of the exit ramp of the store in possession of a shopping cart full of stolen items worth $1,034 and two glass crack pipes.

Walencik was charged with 4th degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia, and arraigned Thursday at Danbury Superior Court.

Police are continuing to investigate the identity of the second suspect involved.
