Men Charged Following Bias Attack On Student: Bethel PD

Third-degree assault and intimidation based on bigotry or bias were among the charges for crimes against a student, police said.

BETHEL, CT — Police said they have charged two men in connection with an incident from January 2022 where a student was exiting a school bus and encountered physical intimidation and racial slurs.

On Jan. 10, police said that Jayden Saba, 18, who is Black, approached the victim at the intersection of Hickok Avenue and Wooster Street, and used racial slurs while assaulting him. During the alleged incident, Kyle Saba, 19, also approached the victim and physically intimidated him as well, according to the Bethel Police Department.

Following an investigation, police said they obtained arrest warrants for both suspects.

Police officers detained both suspects at a residence in Bethel on Tuesday, and took them to Bethel Police HQ. Kyle was charged with breach of peace, and Jayden was charged with third-degree assault, breach of peace and intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

Jayden posted a $25,000 bond, and Kyle posted a $5,000 bond, before being released. Both men are scheduled to appear in court later in April.
