Police Arrest Bethel Man in Jewelry Theft Investigation
Police say DNA evidence played a key role in the months-long case.

BETHEL, CT — Police say that DNA evidence played a key role leading to the arrest of a man they say stole 0ver $50,000 in jewelry.
Lucio Balthazar Gonzales, 33, of Midway Drive in Bethel was arrested early Tuesday morning by members of the Wilton Police Detective Division near his home. Police say that Gonzales was working to assist a resident with preparing a home for sale and providing handyman tasks when he stole the jewelry from the homeowner on Feb. 10.
An "extensive" investigation saw detectives obtain search warrants for Gonzales' DNA and compare the profile against evidence left at the crime scene, according to the police report. Stamford Superior Court issued an arrest warrant for Gonzales after police matched the Bethel man's DNA to that found at the Wilton home.

Gonzales was charged with first-degree larceny and held in lieu of a court set bond of $250,000. He was arraigned at the Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday.
