Fairfield County, CT – Mike Parry, CFP®, President of the Fairfield County/CT Chapter of The Financial Planning Association (FPA), recently announced that this year again The Financial Planning Association (FPA) Connecticut/Fairfield County Chapter in conjunction with the Fairfield County Financial Planning Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is offering one $1,500 scholarship award to a college-bound Fairfield County public high school senior interested in pursuing a course of study that will result in a degree in business, accounting, or related business field and lead to a possible career in financial planning. The scholarship will be given in consideration of academic achievement, financial need, character and career potential. “Need” will be judged according to the standards set by the Selection Committee.

Applications have been sent to the guidance counselors of all Fairfield County public high schools. To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in their senior year of high school at a Fairfield County, CT High School. Applications must be postmarked by Tuesday, April 21, 2015, and received no later than Thursday, April 23, 2015. Late applications will not be considered.

The recipient will be selected and announced in early May 2015 by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Before selection is finalized, the proposed recipient must submit proof of acceptance to an accredited college that offers a degree in business to the FPA Scholarship Committee.

The recipient will be honored during a presentation ceremony at the Chapter’s Annual Meeting & Networking Symposium to be held the evening of Thursday, June 11, 2015.

Last year’s recipient, Melissa Mann (photo attached), is now a Financial Economics Student at Centre College. She went to Staples High School, and had earned scholarships to study Spanish in Barcelona and biology conservation in South Africa. She placed in Staples track and field meets in shot put and was a bronze medalist for National Spanish Exam.

Three FPA members serve as Trustees on the Scholarship Committee, one of whom, John A. Bennett, added his perspective about the scholarship program: “FPA is a national organization, but we are composed of local chapters. As the chapter in Fairfield County, we see this scholarship program as a chance to give back to our community while at the same time encouraging talented young people to seriously consider a career in financial planning.”

Adds Chapter President Mike Parry, “This scholarship demonstrates our commitment to the future of the financial planning profession and our chapter’s dedication to the financial education of our youth, who will be our employees and clients in the years to come.”
