U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Launches New “CONNECTICUT IN THE CAPITOL” Video Series

Reported by Paula Antolini

Murphy released the following statement:

HARTFORD – Today, U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) announced his “Connecticut in the Capitol” video series: a series of YouTube videos that highlight Connecticut’s historical connections to a variety of places and objects throughout the United States Capitol. Murphy launched this series so that people in Connecticut who may not be able to visit Washington can get a close look at the building and learn about Connecticut’s significant impact on this national landmark.

“As you walk through the halls of the U.S. Capitol, you see connections to our state just about everywhere,” said Murphy. “Connecticut has had a huge impact on the architecture, art, and structure of this place, and I hope these videos will help illustrate that even if you can’t make it down to Washington in person. I’m so proud to represent a state that has made such a powerful mark on our nation’s capital, and I hope you'll enjoy this video series.”

The first video released in the series features the set of paintings in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda painted by John Trumbull of Connecticut. Trumbull’s four paintings in the Rotunda (Declaration of Independence, Surrender of Lord Cornwallis, Surrender of General Burgoyne, and General George Washington Resigning His Commission) have become synonymous with the U.S. Capitol and are visited by millions of people every year.
