Amity Golf Wins Nine-in-a-Row

Spartans win over Guilford, Notre Dame and Branford.

Last week’s Southern Connecticut Conference wins over Guilford (155-174), Notre Dame (152-167), and Branford (152-168) enabled the Amity golf team to extend its current winning streak to nine matches in a row and to also up its record to 16-2.

Brent Marieb’s medalist round of 37 led the Spartans to their 19 stroke victory over Guilford at the Country Club of Woodbridge. Alex Marieb and Kyle Barone fired 38’s and Aaron Uscilla added a 42.

According to  winning Coach George Taylor, “We had three very good scores and as a result, the team had a very good match. I’d call 155 a very good score. Woodbridge is our home course but it is still a very challenging course.  By no means would I call it an easy course. The Marieb brothers shot 37 and 38. Kyle Barone was right there with his 38 and Aaron Uscilla’s 42 wasn’t too bad. Guilford’s Ryan Moore is a good player and shot a very solid 39, but we were just too strong for Guilford.”

Turning to the victories over Notre Dame and Branford, Taylor said, “Things went well for us last week. Racebrook is the Marieb brothers’ home course and they both shot very well. Once again, we shot well as a team. On the other hand, Notre Dame didn’t play as well as it normally does. They have good players but didn’t shoot any really low scores against us.”

This time Alex Marieb was the medalist winner with a 35 and his brother Brent carded a 36. Barone cashed out at 40 and Steve Borelli added a 41.
