Amity HS's Kate Simon Sets New Shot Put Records
Since last spring, Simon has pushed the Amity girls shot put record by nearly five feet.
junior Kate Simon since last year when she erased the old Amity mark in the event by nearly six inches in an invitational meet.
The New Haven Register reported that Simon owes her success to a knee injury while playing indoor soccer in 2010. That forced her to focus on the shot put, which she said turned out to be her best track and field event.
Recently, without the knee brace she wore last year, she broke the 40-foot mark with yet another school record put at the New England meet.
