Area Legislators Oppose Troop I Barrack Closure

Several area legislators have come out and opposed a proposal to close the State Police Troop I barracks in Bethany.

The estimated savings for the state would be $1.38 million.

House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-114), State Representative Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) and State Senator Jsoeph Crisco Jr. (D-Woodbridge) released a statement regarding the proposal.

“As part of his proposed plan to manage the increasing budget shortfall in Connecticut, Governor Malloy included the closure of State Police Troop I. We strongly oppose the closure of the Troop I Barracks as it is an integral part of our public safety infrastructure and provides invaluable, life-saving resources to our residents. The state police provide local as well as regional protection, and at a time of heightened concern about public safety, we should look elsewhere for cost savings. At this time, we are still in budget negotiations and discussions remain very fluid. We will continue to work on a solution that both meets our budgetary restraints and supports our communities.”
