Bales of Hay Stolen from Locket's Meadow Farm in Bethany

The theft occurred early Monday morning.

BETHANY, CT - Three bales of hay, enough for the animals' morning feeding, were stolen from Bethany-based Lockets Meadow Farm, owners reported Monday on the farm's Facebook page.

"What kind of depraved lowlife steals from an animal sanctuary?" the saddened and angry owners wrote.

Each morning, the farm, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, buys 20 bales of hay to feed its rescued animals.

"Every day we pick up 20 bales and it's exactly enough to feed everyone for one afternoon and the following morning. Every now and then we can't figure out why we don't have enough hay in the morning, and it completely throws us off because currently we live our lives down to the penny and the last, precise flake of hay. If there isn't enough hay, we buy more, but we suffer in other areas, like groceries."

A potential suspect and vehicle were spotted leaving the farm at about 5:45 a.m., described as "a newer car, four door sedan, deep red, and the man driving it had a shiny, bald head and a fat neck."
