Bethany Airport Hangar Project wants more of your money

On December 2nd Bethany residents should vote no on funding the airport hangar cleanup.

On December 2nd, the taxpayers of Bethany will be asked to approve $30,000 to clean up contaminated soil at the hangar construction site. Here is why you should vote no.

The Airport Committee repeatedly promised that no town money would be used for the project. $30,000 has already been spent without your knowledge or consent. Voting for the measure would bring the total to $60,000.

There has been no public accounting for any of the money spent so far.

The project is almost two years behind schedule. Why?

The hangar was also the town garage for many years. Why didn’t the Committee anticipate that there would be extensive ground contamination?

The construction site has been an eyesore and a safety hazard for months with much of the fencing down and an overturned outhouse in full view of a busy Route 63. Nice.

Ironically, the very same people who say it is our responsibility to clean up the soil contamination didn’t feel the same way about the original decrepit hangar. They were perfectly content to have their fellow Connecticut taxpayers foot the bill for demolishing it.

The Committee promised to raise much of the construction funds privately. Here’s their opportunity.
