Beverly Levy's Legacy is Honored at JCC of Greater New Haven

The JCC's childcare program was renamed the "Beverly Levy Early Learning Center."

WOODBRIDGE, CT — The JCC of Greater New Haven, located at 360 Amity Road, celebrated its grand re-opening earlier this month after a fire caused significant damage to the facility in December 2016, resulting in a multi-million dollar renovation project.

Hundreds of people gathered at the JCC to celebrate on a recent Sunday afternoon, and many came for the touching tribute to Beverly Levy, 63, who died of Ovarian cancer in 2014. Levy, who gave tirelessly to the community and beyond, was honored with a special tribute. The JCC's childcare program was renamed the "Beverly Levy Early Learning Center."

“People come and go, but Beverly came and left a footprint on our hearts,” said Dr. John Levy, remembering all that his wife brought to him, their family and the New Haven community, according to the JCC's website.

Beverly Levy, was a longtime leader in the Jewish community. In her memory, Yeladim, the Jewish Community Center’s childcare program, is now named the Beverly Levy Early Learning Center.

During the emotional ceremony hundreds of friends and supporters of the Levy family and the JCC crowded into the learning center where they heard story after story about how Beverly Levy selflessly gave of herself to those in need. Speakers said it was a fitting tribute for her, because she believed that any place with children was a "sacred place."

Beverly's daughter, Perri, said this about her mother's legacy.

"My mom was amazing. Loved dearly and missed greatly. Having the daycare named after her will help her name to live on not just in our family but in our community. Also it is great to be able to help rebuild the JCC so that our community has that wonderful resource."

It was a day of celebration at the JCC after 15 months of waiting for this day.
