Driver In Woodbridge Double Fatal Crash Charged: Report

The driver in a crash that resulted in two deaths and several injuries has been charged with negligent homicide.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — A man has been charged in connection with a double fatal crash in Woodbridge last summer, according to WFSB 3-TV. Juan Fernandez, 38, of Union City, NJ, was charged with transporting a child under the age of 5 without restraints, speeding, negligent homicide, failure to drive in a proper lane, risk of injury to a child, second-degree assault, and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Fernandez was allegedly driving a Honda Accord that had seven people in it when the wreck occurred on Route 15 just north of exit 58 on Aug. 13, 2021, WFSB 3-TV reported.

Fernandez veered into the right shoulder for an unknown reason and struck a tree.

Siryania Albino-De Fernandez, 30, of Union City, NJ, died in the crash. The other people in the car were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to state police.

One of those passengers, Zionette M. Santos-Degil, died due to their injuries almost a month after the wreck on Sept. 11, 2021, WFSB 3-TV reported.
